My name is Sofia, I am 21 years old, and I am completing my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts
with a focus on Multimedia at FBAUP (Faculdade de Belas Artes do Porto ) (Portugal) .
My artistic practice is deeply multidisciplinary, and as a result, I am interested in exploring many career paths,
including :
set and costume designer,
painter,
photographer,
creative director,
and art educator.
I need artistic creation as a place of translation : everything i feel and am merges into a image or finds its place into the visual field.
Merges into color. I believe I have a special relationship with her* ( with color). She drives my work, shapes my ideas and turns into
bridges (or rivers) between artworks and medias.
If my previous works explored the dichotomy between body and soul, my more recent works shift towards what covers, reveals, and
performs. I am drawn to themes of identity and the various ways of translating it visually. If I want what I feel to be turned into an image,
I too want to become an image. I want to construct my imagetic self.
*In Portuguese, nouns have grammatical gender. The word for “color” — cor — is feminine,
as shown by the feminine article a (“a cor,” meaning “the color”).
